Symposium on the impact of healthy lighting in healthcare

Organized by the Light & Health Research Foundation SOLG

The symposium has been held on 10 November 2010 in the "Lichttoren" in Eindhoven.

The 87 people from all over the world listened to very interesting and inspiring lectures about the effects of light and lighting on human health, performance, and wellbeing, with a focus on healthcare application. The major conclusion was that it is time to get the knowledge gained applied to products, systems and lighting regimes for care homes, private homes and hospitals.

Key themes of the conference included:
Daylight and electric lighting, lighting control, intensity and variations in intensity, color, color temperature and light therapy
All in relation to:

  • Seasonal Affective Disorder SAD
  • Sleep/wake cycle, sleep-disturbances and sleep-disorders
  • Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Public & Occupational health, healing environments, shift work
  • Productivity, performance, Health & well being
  • Melatonin, cortisol
