The members of the scientific consultancy board are:
Prof. dr. D.G.M. Beersma,chairman
Head if the department Chronobiology, University of Groningen. He performs, together with the other members of his research group, research on the sleep/wake cycle, the biological clock and the influence of light on these phenomena. The department posesses a "time-free room" for the research with subjects. In this room sleep research is performed without the subjects knowing the time of day.
Dr. D-J. Dijk
Researcher at the Centre for Chronobiology, School of Biological Sciences, University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.
Dr. Dijk has studied, amongst others at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Womens’ Hospital in Boston, the role of the biological clock and melatonine on the regulation of sleep, age dependent changes in sleep quality, timing of sleep and circadian rhythms in healthy people.
Prof.dr. D.F. Swaab
Director of the Dutch Institute for Brain Research, Professor of Neurobiology at the University of Amsterdam. Prof. Swaab studies the structure and the function of the biological clock in the brain of people in various stages of their life and in illnesses in which the clock is disturbed, like depression and Alzheimers Disease. He is also involved in light stimulation for premature babies, for people with depression and for Alzheimer patients for which the light therapy is used to treat night restlessness.
Dr. Y. Meesters
Dr. Meesters is clinical psychologist and psychotherapist at the University Medical Centre Groningen. He got his PhD in 1995 on the subject of lighttherapy for the treatment of winter depression (SAD). He is also member of the board of the Society for LightTreatment and Biological Rhythms SLTBR
Dr. L. Schlangen
Luc Schlangen got his PhD at Wageningen University, a university that specialises in life sciences. He worked for more than 10 years as researcher and project leader at the Philips Research Laboratory in Eindhoven. At this moment he is progam manager for light, health and well being at Philips Lighting. He is the Dutch representative for the photobiology and photochemics Division 6 of CIE (Commission International de l'Eclairage) and member of the light and health committee of the Dutch Lighting Association
Dr. M. Gordijn
Marijke Gordijn is scientific researcher at the department of Chronobiology of the University of Groningen. She is also member of the board of the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms (SLTBR). Her research is focussed at the regulation of sleep and circadian rhythms in people. Central themes are the exposure of light and the variations during the year, properties of the lens of the eye, melatonin production, body and skin temperature in relation to sleepiness, alertness and well being. Special interest in light for shift work.
